This sculpture was inspired by favourite images from my childhood. I loved my copy of The Yellow Fairy Book by Andrew Lang, with images by Henry J Ford. I would spend hours pouring over the beautiful late Victorian plate illustrations. Looking back now they strongly influenced the type of pose and feeling I want to convey with my work. This piece was actually sculpted direct from life, very quickly in one day, without reference to the Henry J Ford images. It was only afterward that I realised the similarity.
